Humble beginnings
From humble beginnings, starting off from a small shop in Purewell, Reg and Phyllis Sheppard started Christchurch Carpets, back in 1947, just after the war. They started offering 2nd hand furniture, cutlery and nick knacks, but soon realised a big demand for second hand carpets and rugs. It wasn’t long before they were supplying and fitting carpet throughout Christchurch and the surrounding areas.
A family business
It was only when John, their eldest son joined the family business, did the company diversify. John’s passion for Old Persian rugs and carpets become apparent from an early age, being interested in the differing styles and qualities of certain rugs. From then on, and now with John’s son, Thomas joining the family business, Christchurch Carpets have gone from strength to strength offering an incredible choice stock of floor coverings, to suite everyone’s needs.
